Natural Remedies for UC
Earlier this week I attended a webinar through the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America titled “Complementary and Alternative Approaches in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases”. The webinar had a lot of information that I have read about before for natural alternatives for putting UC into Remission. Many of these I have tried in the past. They included drinking Aloe Vera, taking Boswellia, Probiotics, Acupuncture and so on. You can watch the webcast here. They even touched a little on the TSO study similar to the one that I was in. The Dr. running the webinar suggested that you do not use more than 3-5 natural remedies at a time as too much could actually do more damage than good. Here are a few takeaways that I am going to implement from the Webinar.
– Take Probiotics: This is something that I already do, but I am going to try and eat some more natural probiotics like Kimchi and sauerkraut.
– Take L Glutamine: A few other people have suggested that I start taking this, but the Dr. on the webinar really talked up its benefits so I went out that afternoon and bought some. I have taken it for the past few mornings and hoping that it is starting to make a difference.
– Adding more Turmeric to my diet: Turmeric is full of anti-inflammatory properties and its easy to add it to my meals. This is something that I am trying more of.
– Taking Omega 3 Fatty Acids: I take an Omega 3 multi-vitamin everyday after dinner as I have heard about its use for treating UC.
Are there any natural alternative that you try? I will keep you posted on whether the above gets me into Remission along with my daily dose of 4x Lialda.
