Whipworm Study Part 1
In July, I was contacted by Virginia Mason Medical Center about possibly being in a Pig Whipworm Study. You can find information around the study here. At first I was not interested in the idea of swallowing pig whipworm eggs, but the more and more I thought about it, I said why not. Why wouldn’t I give it a try. If I can cure my UC naturally without having to take maintenance medication or immune suppressants the rest of my life, I would give it a chance. In order to quality for the study I had to meet a bunch of requirements. I had to be taking Lialda (my maintenance medication) and be actively flaring while on it. I also had to prove that I had left sided ulcerative colitis. They did a blood test, stool sample and a colonoscopy to make sure that I was good to go in the study. Stay tuned for information regarding future appointments and how everything went during my first 16 weeks.
